Works involved the construction of new reinforced concrete deck approximately 150mm depth cast on top of the existing concrete deck.

The total area was 450m2 which was constructed 8 phases to incorporate the existing bridge joints. Once the reinforced concrete deck had been cast the concrete was waterproofed and the new asphalt road was constructed.

Verges and footpaths were constructed and brickwork was replaced on the north and south parapets

The heavy civil engineering works were completed under a road closure. With Newmarket road being one of the major routes into the town centre of Bury St Edmunds the road opening date could not be moved which meant the works had to run like clockwork.
